The metalworking, electronics, and lignite mining sectors used to provide jobs for most of the people living in this region. However the economic collapse in the early 1990s incited people to leave the region and the area was practically bled dry of human resources. Today, the region around Finsterwalde has become an economic and demographic "problem child" in Germany and within the EU.
Yet the spark was never completely extinguished. For the past few years, activity within the region has been rekindling. The creativity, the passion of local entrepreneurs, and the innovation of their enterprises has been creating new perspectives.
The campaign "Metall Finsterwalde" aims to proclaim this message of the irrepressible entrepreneurial spirit and the opportunities that are being created, of the vivid cultural life and the enchanting landscapes in the region, and of the new optimism found in this area to new business partners and prospective clients and to the local people living here as well.
The campaign "Metall Finsterwalde" forms the starting point for further initiatives. The campaign is designed to recreate lost networks and connections between politics, business, and people. It also aims to communicate the values of the region in order to attract people to live and work here and to shape their futures in the region.
